FACT — Face, Accept, Choose, Take Action

What it is

A four-step move for shifting stuck energy and reclaiming the creative power of the present moment. Developed by Gay and Kathlyn Hendricks, it is one of the few practices the manual calls a “quantum shift” — meaning the change is not an incremental improvement but a state change.

FACT is about returning to flow. When we resist reality, we create suffering. But when we face and accept what is, we re-enter the current of life. — Manual v3, p. 98

FACT is not primarily a verbal process. It is energetic — the body is the guide. Movement, breath, and somatic awareness do most of the work. Insight and verbal naming come along for the ride, but they are not the engine.

The move

StepActionFundamental question
FaceNotice where the issue seems located in the space around you. Alternate between facing and avoiding it for a minute. Then turn and face the issue directly while moving in the YES breath. What about this issue haven’t you faced directly?
AcceptMove with the opening-closing part of the YES breath as you wonder about the question. Float in the question after your breath feels easeful. What is the hardest thing for you to accept about this issue?
ChooseStart doing Creative Joint Play while wondering about the question. Float the question once you feel an increase in flow and vibrance. What do you really want?
Take ActionWalk and move around in your essence pace as you wonder what you really want. What is the easiest, measurable, and pleasurable action step you can take to begin creating what you really want?

Write down: What and by when?

What’s happening underneath

Each step corresponds to a place on the inner-map:

  • FaceNeutrality. Facing what is — the threshold above the Bridge.
  • AcceptAcceptance. Accepting what is — once accepted, the next move can come from the wave of that perfection.
  • Choose ↔ stepping back into agency. What do I really want? is the same SEW question that returns power to the practitioner.
  • Take Action ↔ moving from internal shift to external expression. The body knows what’s next.

The structure is the inner-map in micro: get above the Bridge, then move.

The body is the guide

Across all four steps:

  • Movement, breath, and somatic awareness are the engine.
  • The role of any peer holding space is not to “facilitate the process” but to be present with the practitioner doing the moving. Their body knows what’s true and what’s next.

Common pitfalls

  • Skipping the F. If you haven’t truly faced what is, no amount of accepting/choosing/acting will land. Most stuck-ness lives at what I haven’t faced yet.
  • Verbalizing instead of moving. FACT done in your head produces more thinking. Done in the body it produces a shift. Move while asking the questions.
  • Action without inner shift. Taking action before Choose lands is just busy-ness — it will re-create the same pattern.

Facets served

  • principle-3 — presencing via SEW; FACT is one of the structured forms of that presencing.
  • inner-map — FACT’s four steps map directly onto the upper register (Neutrality → Acceptance → onward).
  • sew — Choose uses the SEW “what do I really want?” question unchanged.
  • unconscious-to-conscious-commitments — both processes end with what do you really want? + a measurable, pleasurable action step.
