Principle 19: The Group is Not Therapy

The group is not therapy. When something exceeds the scope of the meeting, we name it and refer out.

Commentary

Scope discipline. The boundary is named explicitly so it doesn’t have to be enforced ad-hoc in the moment. “Refer out” is treated as a normal, honorable move — not a failure of the group.

Status notes

v3, ready for team review. Named in source Open Questions as load-bearing.

Source confirmations

v5 strategy draft (raw/EPI_Expansion_Strategy_v5.docx.md) is an independent source asserting the same content. Section “The Safe Harbor statement”: v5 enacts this Principle as the literal opening read at every meeting — see safe-harbor-statement.

This is archival corroboration — a different voice and a different context arriving at the same statement. Worth noting for the eventual ratification pass.
